Human Rights Watch
Who We Are
Human Rights Watch, established in 1978 originally as "Helsinki Watch," is a leading organization dedicated to investigating and reporting on human rights abuses globally, employing a diverse team of approximately 450 professionals from over 70 nationalities, including experts, lawyers, and journalists. The organization conducts thorough field research in about 100 countries, exposing violations and advocating for change by engaging with governments, corporations, and other influential entities to enforce laws and promote justice. By refusing government funding and corporate ties, it maintains operational independence while collaborating with various global partners to protect vulnerable populations and hold abusers accountable. Human Rights Watch's commitment to utilizing innovative methods, including satellite imagery and big data analysis, underscores its adaptability and dedication to advancing justice, dignity, and equality for all.
