Founded in 1993 by graphic designers Markus and Daniel Freitag, FREITAG emerged from the need for functional, water-repellent bags capable of holding creative work, leading to the innovative use of recycled materials such as used truck tarpaulins, discarded bicycle inner tubes, and car seat belts to create unique messenger bags. This groundbreaking approach not only captivated the local urban audience in Zurich but also positioned FREITAG as a pioneer in sustainable bag-making, with its product lines expanding to include over 40 models under the FUNDAMENTALS collection and the high-end REFERENCE collection. Continuing their commitment to innovation, the Freitag brothers introduced F-ABRIC in 2014, a line of compostable textiles sourced sustainably. Operating from an 80,000-square-foot space in Zurich since 2011, FREITAG systematic approach emphasizes circular practices in production, ensuring that each process aligns with their sustainability goals while underlining their status as an industry leader in reliable and eco-conscious design.
