Institute For Global Environmental Strategies (Iges)
Who We Are
The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), established in March 1998 through a Japanese government initiative and supported by Kanagawa Prefecture, aims to achieve a transformative paradigm for civilization by conducting innovative policy development and strategic research that informs environmental measures for sustainable development both in the Asia-Pacific region and globally. Transitioning to a Public Interest Incorporated Foundation in April 2012, IGES is committed to addressing fundamental societal challenges arising from the global environmental crisis while redefining the values and systems of current societies to foster new social and economic frameworks conducive to environmental sustainability. Recognizing the importance of sustainable development within the Asia-Pacific region, which encompasses more than half of the world's population and is marked by rapid economic growth, IGES actively engages in research cooperation with various stakeholders, including international organizations, governments, businesses, and NGOs, while disseminating research findings and facilitating international conferences and workshops to promote collaborative solutions.
