Digital Democracy, a project of the Institute for Advanced Technology and Public Policy at California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, establishes itself as a pioneering online platform that enhances public access to state legislative committee hearings through a comprehensive, searchable database of transcribed videos. This innovative tool enables users to efficiently search for content by keyword, topic, speaker, organization, or date, thereby transforming previously inaccessible legislative information into a rich resource that tracks individual participants’ testimonies, fundraising histories, and complete details on all introduced bills. By facilitating meaningful engagement with this data, Digital Democracy empowers citizens and grassroots organizations to effectively interpret and act on legislative matters, while also equipping journalists, activists, educators, and researchers with essential tools to share and disseminate important information via social media.
